Vic's Cafe

Tucked away on East Market Street in New Albany, Vic’s Cafe is the kind of place where the food is hearty, the vibe is laid-back, and the regulars might just greet you like an old friend. It’s a no-frills, divey spot that’s been serving up comfort food classics since 1969.

The menu leans into diner staples—think juicy cheeseburgers, fried mushrooms, pork chops, and roast beef that’s slow-cooked to tender perfection. Breakfast favorites like biscuits and gravy or French toast with eggs are also local go-tos. And if you’re into home-style meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and baked beans, you’re in the right place.

Vic’s has a split personality in the best way: one side is a casual diner with booths and tables, the other is a bar where the drinks are cold and the conversation is easy. It’s got that old-school charm—wood paneling, handwritten menu boards, and a jukebox vibe that feels like stepping back in time.

It’s not fancy, and that’s the point. Whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch, catching up with friends, or just craving some solid comfort food, Vic’s delivers. The staff is friendly, the portions are generous, and the prices are easy on the wallet.

Located at 1839 E Market St, New Albany, IN 47150, Vic’s Cafe is open daily from 7 AM to 10 PM (12 PM to 8 PM on Sundays). For more information, you can reach them at (812) 944-4338.

What a hidden gem! Locally owned. I met the owner and he was nice, friendly and engaging. Unique set up. Regular restaurant on one side, bar and food on the other. You don't order food at the bar if you're on that side. It's cafeteria style, so cool. The ladies cooking are awesome. Great prices too. Check them out!

Didn't quite know what to expect. Was looking for a local diner with typical local food. Vic's is the place. Old style diner with paneling and old school seating (booth style and a couple tables in the middle. Waitress was kind and friendly; low on staff but she did really good serving everyone. We were only people in dining room ( Is connected to a bar ) so again didn't know what to expect. Waitress took order coffee and basic breakfast; eggs ,toast, bacon and sausage; hash browns and American fried potatoes. Boom, people started coming in left and right. Some apparently were regulars were coming in; the waitress brought their drink without asking; the good ole days. It didn't take long and the room was 75% filled with combo of lunch and breakfast being served. Looks like a lot meet there just to hang out with each other. This isn't the Taj Mahal but it a best place to eat and great!

We found this place while visiting the casino and it deserves all the hype!! We're alway looking for diners when we travel and this one has hit the top 5 of that list. The building is from the late 1800's and has been Vic's cafe since 1969!! The waitress is fixing to celebrate her 25th anniversary with Vic's an isn't that something and so is this place. Because you can smoke In there still ya have to be 21 and over to enter- to us empty nesters this is fine and the food is great!! It hit all my ol man's home runs, biscuits gravy, tater tots and canned Diet Coke - he hates fountain - the decor is still probably from who knows when and it's fantastic!! I can't hype this place up enough! The food was delicious and for 2 meals and drinks 25 bucks!!! I hope you enjoy the review as much as I have enjoyed this place - see ya later Vics -till next trip!!

We are in town visiting our daughter and wanted to eat at a local restaurant. After reading some of the other yelp reviews, we had to check it out for ourselves. We were greeted warmly buy the bar tender and a couple patrons , who suggested we eat in the dining room. Our server suggested the specials which we got and enjoyed very much. This will be our go to place whenever we are in town.
